A couple of thoughts.

1. I would stick with whatever works that you currently have installed. If you take a look around, there are a lot of unresolved, non-isolated issues with Pro Tools 10. I could not get it to stop crashing and could not be bothered to find out why on two machines that happily ran Pro Tools 9. For now, I have completely uninstalled Pro Tools because I have not bothered to reinstall Pro Tools 9. I decided to learn Logic Pro until Pro Tools 11 or whatever is 64-bit comes out. If I need to, I will reinstall Pro Tools 9.

2. I would skip the Mbox 2. It is EoL'd and I highly doubt they will make 64-bit drivers available based on statements from Avid. If you are talking about the new Mbox, that's different. But for the price? Buy something that is cross platform and has great driver support. (Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 for $149, Presonus AudioBox for $149, MOTU MicroBook II for $249).

Not to take this thread sideways but as a Sonar user (Producer 8.3.1 - didn't want to get into the mess that is X1) but which version are you migrating from? I only keep it around to handle old projects. Anything new is either on DP or PT on a Mac.

just to be sure are you writing your budget as an institution? the discount is pretty deep if you are you might find that your budget include a little more options that are more viable for the students future. there is a cat on here that does a great job with my foundation. let me see if I can find his name and number for you

I use 8.5.3 in the studio, my lab is 6.2.1 -very outdated.

My studio is still PT 9.0.6 - but the Lab is PT8 LE which requires the M-Boxes so I have to upgrade to get away from those USB interfaces anyway.

... and yes as an Institution the pricing is very attractive. However, after planning the budget for this and next year, I'd rather not buy PT10 now and then but PTXI again next year in order to get the 64 bit app. We are running the 64 bit Creative Suite and Sonar as a 64 bit app -I'd rather wait instead of buying PT twice in two budget years. As you can tell from Sonar 6.2.1 it's difficult to get funding for 25 plus systems.

Thanks again for all the help folks!

been there that makes sense. What kind of control surface are you looking at for the hdx? Do you guys have any kind of digital console? sounds like a nice place to learn.
