drives mysteriously switched from Record to Transfer
Is there a logical explanation why a drive would change it's permission from Record to Transfer?
At the end of a session one evening I shut down the computer and turned off my external drives. The next day I arrived at the studio and the computer had already been turned on by the assistant. When I tried to record to the drives, an error message reported that the drives were set to Transfer mode and I needed to change the permission in the workspace to Record. I recall that this may have happened once before to me in the past but I was just wondering if anyone has an explanation as to what would cause this to happen. Thanks, Dave Reitzas www.reitzas.com |

Did the assistant login as a different user? All's well that ends well i guess. Chris

Re: drives mysteriously switched from Record to Transfer
We've had this happen many times and it seems related to starting up the external drives during and/or before Pro Tools is started.

Re: drives mysteriously switched from Record to Transfer
This has happened to to us about 5 times in the last 2-3 years. First time was a major delay to a session. I still haven't determined the exact trigger for this. . . I guess that once a bug and fix is known it is just another inconvenience. . .
To me this part of ProTools is not right. . . Drives should be set to Record on a session by session basis, so that we can have many drives attached, but go round robin to 2 or 3 of them without worrying about managing ProTools writing to drives all over the place.

Yep, strange behavior, seen it a couple times a year. not a big deal, just switch the drives back to record.

Re: drives mysteriously switched from Record to Transfer
I have had this when the drive has a GUID Partition map, which is not supported on record drives, some drives ship with them though done this way though....
