Default Quicktime playback sluggish in SL, Digi Core Audio?

Quicktime in Snow Leopard 10.6.1 for me is EXTREMELY sluggish and slow to respond when i press play... taking 3-4 seconds?
I think this is Digi Core Audio issue? doesn't seem to happen when internal speakers. this reaaaallly sucks also in my DAW, DP6.02 where playback of a movie file is soooo slow. Absolute pain in the ass!
Anyone had this issue.... is there a fix?

i had a lot of QT playback issues testing PT on SL.

The solution? Install 10.5.8 and PTLE 8.0.1.

This is a known issue and, as you indicated, setting the Sound control panel to 'Built-In' rather than Digi HW should fix the problem.

FWIW - this problem has been known to occur in Leopard as well.
