Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
Hi!
I have been struggling with this for some time now. Basic example: I got a bass track with a compressor on it. The compressor is receiving a side chain signal from my kick via a send, making the bass duck on the kick. Delay compensation is turned off and all is good, side chain wise. But my Bass track also have some additional plug-ins on it, before the side chained compressor, thus requires me to turn on delay compensation to make everything tight on grid. So, when i turn delay compensation on, all the sounds gets lined up tight and smooth BUT the side chain starts to freak out. Not hitting where it should at all. I have experienced the same problem on both PT 9 and 10, native and HD rigs. I have tried to experiment with different buss chains and whatnot but the problem pretty much remains as long as i have delay compensation activated. So far my only solution has been to "bounce" down all tracks (to get rid of any delay) before im able to side chain anything...very contra productive for me in most cases. And i dont really feel i should have to do that. Someone else that recognize this problem? Maybe have a solution? Thanks! |

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
How about if you duplicate the kick track, route the output of that track to the sidechain bus, and turn off ADC on just that track?

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
Ok, then I would just nudge the duplicated kick track earlier in time to compensate.

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
Yes indeed, that would work as an solution to my problem in my example but mostly i have multiple tracks side chained to the same source but the tracks usually have different delay compensations. Thus making nudging....well...not a good solution
Im not trying to shoot your ideas down, i really appreciate you trying to help! But me and my colleagues has been experimenting and trying to figure out a way around this for quite some time now but with no luck. For me and mine this is a huge deal. I'v search around quite a bit and found one other who has recognised this problem. I'm starting to think this thing have slipped totally past Avid and they might be unaware that this actually affects some people. Do they have a adress or something i could write to, explaining and informing rather that complaining about this problem. Their support tab on their site pretty much send me here. Thanks again. |

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
I am looking for some clarification here first...
So you experience the same thing on an HD rig?? Were they RTAS plugs not utilizing the farm render cards? The purpose of farm rendering is to remove the need for delay comp... or delay comp is used when you cant process the data (Plugins in real time) fast enough to playback in time with the samples. That said is it RTAS plugs? Are you using a non HD system for this? You have no system specs in your user account so I am not sure. |

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
Hi!
Yes, all RTAS, on both HD rig and Native. The HD rig is on: Mac Pro (Early 2009) Intel Xeon E5520 2.26GHz 14GB ram OS X 10.7.4 Native: i7 2600 16G ram My colleagues computers im not sure of but they are all pretty new and fast. |

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
Well that is probably the issue... If you could use DSP or AAX plugs things would be in sync... Only thing I can think of is to try the example in this video:

Re: Delay Comp and Side Chain Issue
accidently dubbel posted this thread (http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=328549), got this answer over at the other one.
"This is a known issue and bug verified by AVID. There was no time table provided for resolution. From the 10.3 Update (note below); I am curious if this has been resolved for HDX System. "Delay Compensation may now be enabled for plug-in sidechains in the Operation preferences. (HDX hardware-accelerated systems only)" |
