Default Attempting to connect microphone through Scarlett 2i2 w/PT10.3.0 on W7

I'm incredibly new to ProTools and am making my first foray into getting this system to work. I've managed through most of the problems I've encountered at the start without too much hassle, but I can't get any audio input when I hit record on ProTools 10.3.0 while using a microphone through the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Also, when I've attempted to play the included sample track with ProTools, it refuses to play at all.

Currently, when I boot it, I get an error message that state, "Some paths were made inactive because they could not be assigned to existing path definitions."

I've yet to find anything applicable in troubleshooting that has helped. I've gone through I/O settings multiple times trying to get the Scarlett to work. I'm about to uninstall/reinstall its drivers in hopes that there may be some help there. Otherwise, I'm at a loss.

My stystem is Windows 7 64 bit running on an i5-3750 processor with 16GB of ram and a 64GB SSD primary drive and two 2TB RAID01 (mirror) secondary drives.

The only peripherals installed are the Scarlett 2i2 and the iLok2. I'm running M-Audio AV 40 monitors through the mobo's onboard audio. There is no audio or video card in expansion slots.

How does it "refuse to play at all"? What exactly happens?

Plug your monitors into the 2i2 interface outputs.

In Pro Tools make sure the 2i2 is selected as the playback engine. (Setup>Playback Engine).

In Setup>IO go to each page/tab and hit the default button.

Try creating a new sessions. Does everything work OK?

I have no idea what you are doing with disk mirroring/RAID. Certainly not recommended for Pro Tools audio storage. Several other things makes this a less than ideal Pro Tools computer, including only having integrated graphics. Time to review the systems requirements, and optimization instructions under the "Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!" link on this Web page.

What's bad about the RAID/mirroring? I've gone through the computer optimization guide and tried all those steps. What level of graphics card should I look for beyond integrated?

As for not working, PT won't list the 2i2 under input/output selectors at times, and when I am able to select it, it still shows up in italics. It won't record any audio currently from the device.

Raid drives are not recommended for session storage, outside some specific RAID products. This is a longer discussion and you can search here for lots of past conversations. You need to start by following the Pro Tools recommended disk, 7200 rpm or faster or flash drive. Look up all the specific specs.

Similarly there are clear specs that recommend an Nvidia graphics GPU, although many folks do OK with ATI adapters. The important point is not to be using Intel embedded graphics.

You don't even seen close to having a system that meets recommended Pro Tools requirements, wether that is relevant to this current problem is anybody's guess.
