Default Mac Mini 2014

Finally!

2 x Thunderbolt 2
Intel Gen 4
Intel Iris
PCIe flash storage
etc...

I'm getting one now to try it in one of my studios. :-D

Do we have any value here? Thoughts?

This is the minimum config you'd need for PT IMO.

I'd buy the now older model, NOT this new one.

Can't believe they took out the Quad Core model. How can they say these new models are cheaper?

Yup. Quick look at the geek bench numbers and the dual is FAR behind the quad.

bummer.

Oups.

I didn't see this coming ..
Yes Sardi, Apple has removed the quad processor option on the new Mini. This is a show stopper for me. I'll have to step on the brakes and head over to an Apple store to run some performance tests before I decide.

Drew, where did you see those numbers on the new Mini? I couldn't find them at primatelabs.

Not the new Mini, but that processor itself. It's pretty bad.

Yeah, now when you say it, there aren't that many i7 two core processors from Intel. And none of them are any performance beasts ...

Oh, this is so sad. Apple could've had my money and continued loyalty (regarding Minis) HAD they just presented the right deal.

Actually, it seems that the reason for bi-core only is power saving/graphics performance.
There are no Haswell Quad CPUs consuming less than 45W with HD5000/Iris Graphics (they just have HD4600).

They weren't able to take the same i7 Quad than in iMac/MBP because they consume 66W, which is to much for the 80W power supply of the MacMini.

So they gave priority to graphics while staying with bi-cores.

This MacMini will be perfect for gaming…

PS : It seems that LPDDR3 RAM doesn't exist in sticks. Go buy older Macs………
