Default Used HD Prices on the way Back UP

Prices are rising back up. Fetching over 2k for used HD1. To me, falls under what my mamma used to always told me "Just because you can, does not mean you should".

So just because HDX is out there, is it really that compelling for many users to upgrade to it?

Only you can answer, but the marketplace says HD is far from over.

I don't have a dog in the hunt, I have an HD2 and will likely never go HDX, although it looks very good. I just dont need it.

Hi Barry,

I'm curious why so many HD users continually post about how popular their systems remain and then throw a few jabs at HDX. It just feels like some HD users need to do this in an attempt to feel better about not upgrading yet?

I don't think anyone believes (I would hope) that HDX is FAR superior to HD. HD systems have been and still are great.

But posts like this do seem to demonstrate a little insecurity imho.

What do you think?

Ron,

Are talking about me taking jabs at HDX?

I sure hope not, when I posted a thread about HD prices plunging, it was said I said HD was dead, now I post saying the prices are going back up, you are saying I'm taking a shot at HDX? But, I can see how a person that only read this thread could see it the way you did.

Can't win either way. I like to debate, I find processes like this very interesting. I find people are smart, they can come to their own conclusions.

Please look at all my posts, you will find I have had nothing but praise for HDX. It's well known my thoughts on PTHD10 pricing. I am on record as saying HDX is also reasonably priced.

FWIW, I simply don't do very large sessions, my recordings are almost all rock. Very, very few virtual instruments. 50 tracks is a big session for me.

If I hit the lottery I'd buy HDX, because I can, not because I need it. I'm wired that way.

Sound !! ... there's a reason to go HDX. It translates the source better then anything out there so far.

Now those of us that have been around the block a couple of times know of course that saying that is as much a cliche as anything else out there on the internet audio forums. Sound of what right ?

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I will choose any cheap off the shelve audio card with some cheap mics recorded in whichever format available over making a compromise towards the original source. I'd much rather record a great performance with my phone then record a lousy performance with in the best sounding room in the world with the best gear out there including an HDX system.

All I am saying is that HDX is a huge improvement in the process of a technology that eventually will evolve into a listening experience that gives you the absolute perception that you are sitting in the room with the performer.

We all hopefully know that there are A LOT of factors that come into play here and your recording system / medium is just one of them. HDX for that is in my opinion the best system currently out there.

I have had mine for a couple of months now and everyone who cares and knows something about sound, from players / singers / instrumentalists etc who have worked with me before are saying exactly the same thing : What happened ?

I'm doing the exact same things I have done for years and it is one of those few impressive steps in ones career where one goes wow !!!

Yes, I work for Avid and you do not have to take my word for it. I just got back from Messe 2012 in Frankfurt and what gives the confidence to post this is that I am not alone. Anyone who has worked on HDX I spoke to is saying the exact same thing : The sound !!!

Not directed at you Barry. That is why I said "I'm curious why so many HD users continually post about how popular their systems remain....."

I will say however that since I upgraded to HDX I've gotten across the board comments on how great the mixes sound. I have found it much easier to obtain mixes I'm happy with.

Best,

Ron

Barry...

There are several hundred thousand threads on this forum.

May I suggest that if you wish to refer to a previous post it might be a good idea to include a link back to the referenced post?

I'm pretty sure I'm safe in saying that few, if any, of the other posters here hang on your every word, nor do they on mine...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Chris,

The Jury is far from rendering a verdict on sound. I have no idea, but there is lots of talk of the sound of HDX, seems to be way more skeptics than believers on that front.

Regulars around here have read my posts as I have read theirs. Trust me, some of them call me out every once and a while. It's all good. Lots of folks know where I stand, some may not agree, but that's ok too.

I like to think of the forum as a group of friends, and even friends argue from time to time.
