Default Whats your favorite way to record Bass?

Whats your signal chain?
Straight into a pre or do you use a DI box?
What kind of plugins do you use for your Bass tracks?
Do you use multiple tracks for Bass?

Just wondering what others are using.

Thanks!
-Chris

I love the Reddi tube DI.
I don't care for the sound of using the instrument input jacks on most preamps. I think the sound coming in the XLRs is better.

I usually record direct though one of my preamps.
More times than not I use a side of my UA 2-610, sometimes one of my Vintechs. No compression on the way in.
Then I generally add SVX, or one of many other amp sims I have.

I also like to record through a Radial DI into a mic pre (just not the instrument in jack). I do like the sound the pre gives after the DI.

My favorite chain:

1) choose a great song
2) choose a great highly-skilled artist
3) use a great instrument, and Whirlwind Leader or another such great cable
4) plug it into great DI, such as Focusrite ISA-1
5) connect the DI to a great A/D converter, such as the 192kHz ISA AD option

If I could choose the first three, I would be fine with mBox and any crappy DI out there. If I only could choose the last two, I wouldn't even want to record...

Seriously; Focursite ISA-1 is very nice DI for bass. It has two channels which means you can also mic the thing and use it for subtle "beef" as well If you have the ISA-1 with the AD option, it's really all about the song and how well it's performed.

"The bass sound comes from the fingers", so true...

I've been diggin' going direct into a Radial JDI, but I have to be honest. I really miss my Avalon U5....
Before I go back down the Avalon Road again, I wanted to see what other guys out there have been using.
