Default It’s that time of year again...Ugh!

Another year another 500 bucks to pay for my two upgrade plans. Pro tools HD / ultimate license and regular Pro Tools. A year has gone by and I never upgraded to 2018 versions but paid the price anyway. I currently am running still unsupported 10.13.6 Sierra with Pro Tools 12.7. I have no graphic issues which were plaguing me for years and Mojave is also not supported by Avid. So what the hell am I paying for? I’m tired of paying and Avid lagging so farm behind OS upgrades. I know if I don’t pay I will be screwed when I do want to upgrade again, but I hate paying knowing I’m not going to upgrade for a long time because my system is rock solid and there is no need. Last years changes to PT don’t justify the cost. I will most likely fork out the cash yet again, but it makes me a bit nauseous. It’d be one thing if there were compelling new features and I actually needed phone support but I never do. Just getting quite tired of the whole upgrade plan. I’d rather pay for an upgrade when I want to upgrade not because I’m being forced to, so I could skip a year and keep my solid system and then when there is something worth upgrading for, pay a reasonable charge and upgrade as I have perpetual licenses. It’d be one thing if they came out with compelling options each year and kept up with the OS updates I a reasonable time frame, but they lag so far behind and then we’re always the beta testers for the new versions.... hence ugh! Sorry for my bitching just felt like venting before I break out my credit card to give Avid yet another 500 of my hard earned smackers.

What you've written doesn't make sense.
If you are on an upgrade plan, why are you on 12.7 and not 2018.12?
And 2018.12 is supported with macOS 10.13.6.

Start there.

(also, why did you not get the 20% off upgrade plans offered less than a month ago? I mean, unless you like to spend more for the same thing. Avid's been doing the same offer 3 years now at the same time of year.)

I guess I didn't get the memo. So as of December 10 Pro tools 2018.12 supports 10.13.6 my bad. I guess I will take it for a test spin but it just came out really and 12.7 has been very solid for me so I had no need to rush and update. As for the 20 percent off I did not get an email from Avid on the promotion or any notice for that matter but now that you mention it I do think I took advantage last year but my upgrade is due in Jan not December. I will call them tomorrow and see if they will still honor it. So thanks for mentioning that.

The reason I have not updated is once I am mixing a season of TV shows and everything is working i have no reason to upgrade. I only updated my OS recently to 10.13.6 to get rid of a graphics issue I was having with the Nvidia driver and 10.13.6 finally was the working combo all other 10.13s had the graphics issue when I tested them. I would still be on Sierra otherwise. PT2018 had about 10 updates in one year I don't have time for that nor want to take the risk when things are working to keep up with updates as it usually opens a can of worms. Plus I kept reading about cpu spikes in the forum here with earlier versions of 2018.

.
On Macs, you can have more than one version of Pro Tools installed. Just change the name of your previous version (for instance "Pro Tools" -> "Pro Tools 12.7") and then install the new version. If you have problems, you can just open your session in the previous version.

Doesn't matter when your renewal date is. If you buy a renewal when it is discounted, you apply it to your account and it extends your renewal from the date when your original plan was going to expire. You don't "lose" any time you've already paid for. The discount was through US dealers (not direct from Avid though Avid is the one who authorises it/sets it up for dealers.) I wouldn't hold out much luck to get a grace period on a discount from Avid. Vintage King ran the sale right up until midnight 12/31.

At this point, it might just be something to keep in mind for next year. (They've run this sale at least twice a year -- once in the spring and once in the winter around US holidays; it's just now you are too far away from the next one to not get hit with the penalty of reinstatement if you waited.)

Avid was very cool and gave me a discount code for both Ultimate and regular. I wish I could now delete my initial complaint but if I hadn't posted it I would have forgotten all about the discount which saved me 100 bucks! So thanks to all for replying to my post and Happy mixing in 2019!
