Unhappy Problems with PT 10 on Windows 7

I ditched my PT 8 and Digi 003 for an Eleven Rack, PreSonus Faderport and PT 10. That was in December and I still can't get it working in a stable fashion. I can, after a long wait, record a track, and then wait as it is "Not Responding" for 5-10 minutes. It is usually preceded by a flash like a flash bulb for photography (if anyone out there remembers that). It is not quite as dramatic and much quicker. After waiting a couple minutes, I can record again and then wait again.

I am not much of a techie so I don't really know what these numbers are, but I have read other threads and know they are important for compatibility.

Lastly, my system worked fine for PT 8.

Have a read here: Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting! and post a Sandra report. AMD systems are not nearly as well sorted with PT9 and 10.

I'll try to do this, but I don't connect this machine to the internet because it is solely dedicated to PT. I didn't know that about AMD. Thanks.

You can download Sandra Lite from any machine and move it to your PT computer with a USB pendrive. When you save the report, you will paste it in a simple text file(Windows Notepad) and can use the USB stick to move to your internet machine.

Default Re: Problems with PT 10 on Windows 7

I see a few problems here.
Memory Controller : HP RS780/880 Host Bridge 2x 2GHz (4GHz), Integrated Graphics integrated graphics is often NOT good for Pro Tools. Installing a modest ATI graphics card and disabling the onboard in BIOS might help here.

Memory Module : Micron 16JTF25664AZ-1G4F1 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-10700U DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25 4-34-10-5)
Memory Module : Micron 16JTF25664AZ-1G4F1 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-10700U DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25 4-34-10-5) 4GB of RAM is cutting it thin for performance. If you expand, I would double up on this exact same RAM(important to have all matching sticks).

WDC WD5000AAKS-00TMA0 (500.1GB, FireWire/1394/SATA300 FW drives are NOT supported on Windows 7(but USB2 IS supported). Since most desktop machines have room for multiple internal drives, adding a good SATA drive will give the best performance(WD Caviar Black are a good choice there)

FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : HP VIA VT6308 1394 OHCI Controller VIA FW controllers are usually not compatible with audio streaming or Pro Tools. Adding an approved FW card with a TI chipset couldn't hurt.

Wireless Adapter : 802.11n Wireless LAN Card should be disabled when running PT(at least until you achieve good performance, then you can turn it back on and see if it hurts)

Thanks for taking the time to look at it. I will make those changes and see where it gets me OR I will get a Mac.

Getting a Mac is an option, but don't discount building a PC with proven parts. You can achieve equal or better performance for 30-40% less cash If you peruse the LE on Windows section of the DUC and hit the first page of the sticky thread called "i7 Builds...", you'll find a wealth of info. Going Mac is usually easier, but going with proven parts(motherboard/cpu/RAM are critical) can save you enough money to buy a new interface
