Check out 'Ivory'. It won't be out till later this month, but I heard it at the NAMM show in LA and through headphones it was fantastic. It's being distributed by Ilio, so check out their website for info............

I saw the info on their website months ago, and it looks great. But I've stopped believing it would ever make it to market. This month you think?

What else?

They've been saying later this month for months now, so it seems. Also they don't have any demos on the web sites. I've heard great things from NAMM, though.

I recently started using the EastWest PMI Bosendorfer 290. It works as an RTAS plugin for OSX (which kinda' sucks if you are a OS9 lover like me) or Sound Manager only in OS9. So I have to go to OSX to print the midi track each time, but is worth it. The sound is excellent, recorded dry and from a distance. It has a few bugs, but it goes for around $170, very real, stereo samples.

I saw last week from NAMM that Yamaha is introducing a new plugin board for their synths that contains a sampled Yamaha CFIIIS Concert Grand Piano. It will be shipping this fall. Price will be a little over $300. Haven't heard this board, but I have been very satisfied with the piano sounds on my Motif rack.

A good friend of mine has a brilliant piano; he has made himself by sampling the original Steinway. He has spent a lot of time mixing three layers of sound and resampling some of it. He has made it in a Roland format on his Roland sampler. I've heard it several times and this thing sounds like a real thing in every aspect. Top end and bass notes are perfect. Three layers of sound with different velocities.

But... he afraid that when he will try to sell it, everybody will copy it and all his work will be lost.

Maybe someone has an idea how to convince him.

I have never heard as good piano sound as his samples.

BTW. He is a great keyboard player and great sound engineer.

I've been using the Bardstown Bosendorfer for awhile now. Everytime I hear a new one, I end up going back to it. I would like to check out the Synthogy Ivory plug. I heard the preview in headphones at NAMM last year, and it seemed pretty nice.

I added one custom bit to the Bosendorfer... I sampled some damper pedal ups and downs and use those in passages where the piano is one it's own, and you'd think the thing was in the room with some mics up.
