I change buffer to 512 and cpu was around 20%. Insight 1 was on one screen almost at full size. So it looks like those oldish Apple cinema displays are hogs for cpu. Also I had a older version of BX steromaker and updating to latest version helped as well. I am re-checking all the plug ins now and updating as we speak.

But generally, it is good that we have 2019.5, shame about HDX voices, but I am sure it will come soon.

This is exactly the issue I was having. Upgrading to Mojave fixed it. I also have an RX 580 in the post as well.

Aside from the izotope insight plugin, have you noticed any performance increases since you got the Radeon card? I also have a 5,1 Mac that is completely maxed out, but the graphics still cause cpu spikes. I have found hiding windows (or even just hiding the meters by deal=electing them in the view options for the mix window) helps. I’m considering upgrading my graphics card as well. I am on dual monitors (one is a Raven Mti the other a lcd tv used as a monitor) and I would like to remedy these issues. I have a 5870 graphics card now.

I have found turning off hyper threading helped in the past with previous version on Sierra, but now that 2019.5 is out I am testing it on High Sierra due to the reports of potential improvements. So far so good, but I have only had the new system up and running today.

I upgraded my graphics card months ago, to be able to run 2 34” wide screen monitors, I’ve had zero issues with PT2019.5 ultimate.

Zero issues with Radeon 7970. Not even a driver installation necessary, runs out of the box. PT 2019.5 feels MUCH snappier in Mojave than 2018.12 in High Sierra.

I've had the same card in my 5,1 for over a year (waiting for Mojave support). Before the card with Sierra and High Sierra, Pro Tools 12.x had issues with running reference videos in a session. Stuttering and out of sync issues no matter the codec of the video. After the card, I can run any video with ease.

I would recommend going to Mojave. It got rid of all my graphics related cpu spikes
