Default virtual memory and disk cache?

i was wondering if anyone here knows the effects that turning off virtual memory and limiting disk cache to 512k has on browsing the internet. i occasionally use my Mac to browse the net, the same 466 G4 I have Pro Tools on. Pro Tools runs like a champ, but the net seems awful slow compared to my 333 Gateway. Are Pro Tools' memory setting affecting my web surfing?
