Thinking about a new G5?

This may be old news to some of you but if you are eyeing a shiny new G5, wait until January.

I just talked to the Apple rep and our local CompUSA and he told me that come Jan. the prices on the G5s are going to drop dramatically. For example, the baseline model will sell for around $1600 and the upper models will also be dropping.

So save that holiday money.

well that probably means apple is planning on coming out with something new soon after that price drop as well.

they just dropped the bottom price to $1799 ($1599 if you're smart and use the education discount thru apple's online store). it looks like they are already clearing the way for updated machines in january or february. the next batch is rumored to be 1.8, 2.2 and 2.5 ghz. if you can really wait a bit longer, 3 ghz was publicly promised by the end of next summer.
