Default ATA can\'t get data from the drive fast enough

The error also reads that my drive may be too fragmented or my firewire bus too slow. This is an internal 7200rpm ATA drive. I got this error last night after recording a short part on the 38th audio track of an otherwise untaxing session. CPU is at maybe 15% playing back the tracks.

Are ATA drives really unable to play back the full 48 tracks that the MPT is now capable of? I bought iDefrag and defragged the drive (it was waaaaaaaaaaay fragmented) so I'm hoping when I try to record tonight everything will be cool.

Just wondering if anyone else has gotten and resolved this error.

Generally speaking any ATA or Firewire drive is qualified up to 24 tracks - while some people are able to get more, if you get this error, it's very likely you've hit your particular drives maximum track count.

Thanks for the response Tech Support. Does that mean I should configure a two drive array, 24 tracks each? What about SATA? Do you support more tracks for those drives?

Hey all - I don't know if anyone cares but for archive purposes (in case there are searches on this in the future) I got rid of the problem. I'm sure defragging didn't hurt, but I think the real problem was a corrupt file. The session would lock up & report that error only when it got to this short guitar solo part. I later found, when trying to copy the whole session to another drive for backup purposes, that it couldn't copy that particular wav file. Got rid of the file and all is good.

That's what I get for recording a song with guitar solos in 2006.
