Default Glass/glasses in a studio

Again I'm very new to this.
Why must the glass between the control room and the recording room be...tilted (at an angle). I went to a couple of studios last week and all of them had the glass/glasses at an angle. Why??? Enlight me gents. It'll be really appreciated.

I don't think it has to be tilted.I think it just cuts down on glare..I could be very wrong, as I have been in the past. And if I am I will be enlightened.

Actually, I think there is an accoustic, sound-isolating, advanced physics type of explanation, but I'm not going to tell you what it is because I'm feeling very stingy right now.

That's fine, I don't really need to know, but maybe you could tell the original poster..I won't listen.

Just as an afterthought I have been in studios where the glass is not set on an angle Studio This place in particular, where I have done a lot of work ,does not have the glass in the control room at an angle, although some of the isolation booths are.

Harry, to answer your question, I qoute an article from studio covers on audio studio design:

Quote:
If you do use internal windows, they should be double or triple paned glass. The windows should be tilted downwards towards the floor so they reflect sound away from the microphones and don't add standing waves.

Harry, the Real Reason it's to cut on Glare, not the standing waves. Putting one of the panes at an angle creates better visibility from both rooms point of view.

Also I think that when sound hits a flat surface it will pass through it...especially glass.....Let me see if I can do this in some sort of ASCII pic:

**********| |
**********| |
<------- |<-->|
-------->|--->|---------->
**********| |
**********| |

However, if you tilt one of the pieces of glass sound is reflected at back into the room at different angles, passes through the glass at an angle and bounces around inside the glass until it eventually dies out. Now I'm not saying that it makes glass "sound proof" but it certainly does cut down on sound passing through it. And yes it eliminates glare and just plain looks cooler!!

Someone let me know if Im wrong on this stuff.....this is how it was explained to me years ago when I built my studio.

-S0nguy

*** I give up on my ASCII pic......I cant get it to look right. Sorry....the vertical bars are glass.

Thanks for all your replies guys.
Spkguitar, I wish I had read that article before I started building. Now I have a rectangular shaped studio in the basement.
