One Controller to Rule Them All
November 28th 2002

On a compatibility level, the Logic Control System can't be beaten by its competitors. The Logic Control System can now control every OMS-compatible Mac OS 9 audio and MIDI application, that offers support of the Mackie Control or the Mackie HUI. At present, these include Pro Tools (including Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools Free), Digital Performer and Nuendo.

This makes the Logic Control a particularly interesting prospect to any user who switches between different host programs, and wants access via a hardware controller.

Switching between host applications with a Logic Control System can be performed with no reconfiguration, or need to launch additional programs. The number of Logic Control and Logic Control XT units that can be used in a setup is limited solely by the host application.

As the XSKey isn't required by the Logic Control System, the use of Logic Control, and all the benefits that this brings, isn't limited to the owners of a Logic Platinum 5 license.

The free, downloadable Logic Control System OMS driver can be found here.

I was just wondering:

Has anyone had experience using logic control with pro tools. I'm both a logic and pro tools user.....

There's a software translation from Logic Control to the HUI standard.

What I'd love is the opposite: to be able to use a HUI to control Logic!

Hi

Are PT users still limited to 1 exspansion fader unit, plus the master module? Or will we be able to use as many exp. units as we want?

Thanks

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Please read the quoted Emagic message. This limit is gone. The limit existed in the old "Logic Control HUI Emulation" software, because it communicated with Pro Tools via the OMS IAC busses. As there are only four of them, and one was required per direction, there was a limit of two units.

The new Logic Control OMS Driver provides direct OMS device ports which you choose in Pro Tools. Therefore there is no limit from our side - however there is still a limit of four units (i.e. four HUIs) in Pro Tools.

Hi Michael this is awesome news as I use Digital Performer, Protools, Live, and Logic...but will this still be able to be done in OS X since OS X doesn't support OMS?

Michael,

This is great news. Since I probably won't be able to get my hands on one of these units until/unless I buy one, maybe you could answer a couple questions.

I primarily use Digital Performer. First question, can the Logic Control work with DP at all, since it uses an OMS driver? Has anyone tried it using FreeMIDI's OMS compatibility mode or OMS emulator?

Second, if it does work with DP, does it use DP's HUI driver, or its Mackie Control driver? In other words, can you do things like track grouping that are only supported in the Mackie Control driver?

Thanks,
Jacob
