Default Will we see OSX support at AES? place your bets here

I've heard rumor of people seeing a beta version, could this mean a working version by AES in October?

Would I'd be asking for too much if I could see working OS X AND D.P. support by fall? (Drool, drool)

DigiEngineer...

If I'm not mistaken, DP support is embedded in OS X, so if Digi could get PT working on OS X, DP would be inherent in the system, I believe.

Not that it's directly news, but there is a summary on the the current state of audio and MIDI support in OS X at Working Mac .

And since many developers seem to be waiting for better audio support in the system itself, this recent Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2) screenshot from Think Secret shows improvement.

Here's hoping...

They'll at least show it at AES. My guess, they'll show it there and ship within 3 months, it will be called Pro Tools 6.0, it will cost at least $99 to upgrade. Lots of video track improvements, better bundled EQs, and a killer new Aqua look, of course. All of this is speculation on my part, but I'm usually right about these things.

I was told "end of the year". What that means exactly, is anyones guess, but if I had to guess, I'd say Christmas time!

My bet:

PT on OS X shown at AES, but not running on every demo station (too flakey for that).

Price: $149 to $249 range.

They will say that the target to ship is in 3 months, but you'll be lucky to have it by Valentine's Day.

I just hope they do more than just OSX.

For those of us with stable systems, OSX doesn't really excite me very much.

We'll probably have to upgrade all of our plugins again. Fun Fun Fun.

Oh boy, aqua interface. Now I can really make some music.

Really... who cares about OS X as long as it runs good.

My bet is they'll create an OS X version that runs real time audio suite and HTDM on the dual cpus and they'll charge $499 for the upgrade.

If it'll somehow make reason work better with protools I'll pay the $.

I also bet it'll be too buggy to dick with until Summer 2003.

I don't think we should be scared of OSX. Obviously most of us can't upgrade because of PT, but OSX based on the Unix architecture is a lot more stable than our current systems.

However, I'm not referring to the stability of OS9 software running in classic mode from someone using osX. As some of us know, that is a different story.
