Question Swapping Mbox 1 to Mbox 2 - straight swap

Hi there,

My Mbox 1 recently packed up - I need the SPDIF ports and something went wrong with them. I just bought an Mbox 2 and I want to swap the physical hardware over without changing ANY of the software.. I don't want PT 8 on my computer - everything works just perfect under PT 7 that I already have installed.

My question is: how do I swap over the Mbox 1 to the Mbox 2 without any software changes.. I suppose it needs the new drivers but I wanted to check. I already plugged everything in and it doesn't work..

Quick question.

Why not use the brand new Mbox 2 and avoid the risk of having 2 broken Mboxes, instead of just 1?

Yes I want to use the new Mbox 2 but with the Pro Tools version 7 I already have installed... I just don't want to update to PT8 as my setup works fine and I hear stories of people having issues when they update their PT version. I literally want to unplug the Mbox 1 from my USB and plugin the Mbox 2... but whats the best way to go about this?

Ah...my bad. I thought when you said "swap the physical hardware" that you wanted to open up the Mbox 2 and replace the inputs with the previous ones, or some crazy situation like that. My bad. According to the digisite's compatibility grid, you should be able to run 7 on an Mbox 2. Have you tried updating your drivers?

Ah yes! Thanks dude.... I suppose I was looking if there's a way that I should be doing it from the included dsics.... but I have indeed gone to the updates and drivers section of the Digi website and found the relevent drivers..... so far so good! I think it's all working.
