Default Do RTAS plugins work on HD systems?

This came up on another forum...

Yes, I know they don't run on the DSP hardware, but do ordinary RTAS plugins, for instance, Waves Native Gold, run as RTAS on a TDM HD system? Or do you need to buy the TDM version of Waves, even to use it as RTAS?

Yes.

PT7 HD has noticably improved RTAS implementation over 6.x (you can now use them on Aux's and Master Faders)

let me get this straight....
so you are saying that if I (one day) make the jump from LE to HD..
all of my existing (and expensive) RTAS plugs will still work in HD?
(I always assumed that upgrading to HD would mean thousands of my LE RTAS $$$ down the drain)

maybe HD isn't just a dream?

Yes, of course. They will still run on your CPU just like they do now (they won't magically become the HD versions), but they'll still work just fine. Previous to PT7 there were limitations with RTAS, so another format called HDTM (which is now gone) helped to fill in the gaps, but the PT7 implementation is great in my limited experience with it so far.

understood. Thanks Slim

Maybe a dumb question but...
Are the HD/TDM versions of plugs superior (sonically) to the LE RTAS?
or is it just the Native vs DSP hardware issue?

thanks
