Default Upgrading from High Sierra to Mojave

Hello,

I am taunted to update to Mojave but I have this question ....

in terms of speed and snappiness, would upgrading directly to Mojave rather than installing Mojave fresh from a USB Stick cause a drop in performance whatsoever ??

Opinions are much appreciated

Taunted?

I’m on Sierra and unless 2019.5 requires a higher OS, I feel no need to move up.

If you do want to upgrade, as has been mentioned countless times on these boards, clone your drive and do a fresh install. Too many things get left behind when doing an in situ upgrade.

It’s also a good time to clean house and not reinstall stuff you never use.

If you're so tempted, do it on a separate drive, and leave your install working as it is.
From my findings, I find Pro Tools 2018.12 much worse on Mojave (compared to Sierra). I'm on a 5,1 mac pro 3,46 dual processor system. The thing is, i upgraded the gfx card to Radeon 560 to run Mojave, and when system gui runs pretty snappy, the PT gui lags when compared to Sierra. I wonder if anyone else experiences that. I will want to work with Sierra as long as possible. Hoping PT 2019 will still run without problems.

My machine arrived with Mojave preinstalled, so I definitely stay on Mojave and waiting for today's download-link of PT 2019.5 in my Avid account.

@bartosz idzi:
If you have weird graphic issues you might try this, depending on your display:

1. change the color-profile (preferences/display/colors) (try/error),
2. try SwitchResX https://www.madrau.com/srx_download/download.html (esp. HDPI on/off if applicable)
