The dual channel ATTO card is recommended because it's better to keep your hard drives on one bus and your CD burner/tape backup on the other. As long as your ATTO card is a current model (PSC, UL2S, UL3S), it will work fine on the G4 for one of the above uses.

Update ATTO firmware and ExpressPro-Tools on www.attotech.com. Go to support and downloads. look under both drivers and apps.

When setting up, drop your sync rate to 20/10 and your burst rate to 32.

The Adaptec card may not work on you G4, there are issues.

SCSI is still a year or two ahead of IDE as far as drive speed availability. Get the fastest access time you can afford when buying new drives.

If you mix storage and legacy devices on the same SCSI bus, you should get a self terminating cable, assuming you're going wide to narrow. Wide devices should be first on the chain. Check out www.scsi-cables.com for this. Call ATTO tech support to go over the setup before you buy (716-691-1999 x242).

Don't fight it!!! It's not worth the long-term data-losing hair-pulling session-killing suicide-inducing HELL that you will create if you try. JUST GET THE ATTO dual-channel.

The best $500 you ever spent.
