Default Midi instruments going out of tune?

Hi. All of a sudden whenever I create an instrument track and start playing midi using a plugin (any plugin) the notes start out correct and then suddenly warp out of tune. Why is this happening? How can I fix it?

I'm using PT 2020.12
iMac 2020
MacOS Catalina

Are these tracks that you're playing in? My immediate guess is that you have a controller that has a wobbly pitch bend control. Either record some MIDI until it happens (and continue for a few bars after) and see if there's Pitch Bend data (or any CC, like Aftertouch) recorded in either a Controller Lane or the Event List.

Or you can try blocking Pitch Bend and Aftertouch in the MIDI Input Filter.

I am playing them with a midi controller but the pitch bend hasn't moved at all. I've checked it. ALSO. I've tried just writing out the midi in the midi editor page... its still warping. It also happens in my Finale software. I always assumed it wsa a problem with Finale but now it's happening in PT.

First troubleshooting steps would be to completely disconnect *all* usb peripherals. Then try manually writing in some midi and see what happens. Also take a look at your Audio Midi Setup and see if anything unusual is in there. Since it's happening in both Finale and PT it seems pretty clear it's something external to the software.

Unplugged my keystation and everything is fine now. Guess it's time to replace it. Thank you!

I had the same problem with an M-Audio controller. The pitch wheel was possessed and would send out phantom messages detuning everything I played. Thought it was a mental breakdown at first.

I have a 20+ year old Midiman controller that works as good as new. M-Audio ruined their reputation.
