Default Ideas Box ... Nesting Tracks ... Not just Fader Groups .. bring it!

wouldn't it be great or is it already possible (and i'm oblivious to the function )to "nest" tracks - not just or only fader groups

if we had a 6 track mono field recording - you find the balance between all the 6 mono trk that you like - assign all 6 mono trks to the same buss - that buss assigned to an aux master faded - then ... this is the good bit - those 7 tracks are highlighted a right click of the mouse - select "nest tracks" ... your 6trk sub mix now appears as a 1 track nested to 1 fader (like a VCA or aux master) - collapsing the 7 traks to 1 trk saving screen real-estate

how good would that be!!!

if later you find you need to tweek the sub mix - cmd+opt+n will reveal the original trks for you to tweak - then collapse to a nest if you like again

whalla ...

AM I DREAMING OR WHAT!!!!

final cut pro had this feature in like version 2 ages ago ... picture editors collapsing multi track video to keep your time line easy to navigate / more efficient / less clutter and very manageable when you have over 128 traks in a session ... can this not be done in tools???

wheres the ideas box ... is there an ideas box???

HELP MEEEEEEEEEE!

No, you can't nest audio unfortunately.

But you could - if there's no automation involved - audiosuite each region/track and afterwards move the seperate mono tracks to a 5.1 track (if that's what the 6 tracks are for)

Hope this helps,
Timothy

Why not just hide the 6 mono tracks?!

Yeah this is what I was going to suggest. multichannel track shows up in PT as 1 track with one fader. You have the option of creating a 6.0 audio track in the "new track window". Assign it's output to a mono out (similar to assigning a stereo track to a mono out). The channels all get summed together.

To change the relative balance of the six tracks. Insert a multi-mono trim plugin and turn off the "link" button. You can now select the trim volume of each channel individually. And you can technically automate each trim as well, if you want/need to.
