USB 3 on new Mac Pro...Ilok updates coming?

Hello
I am buying into Apple Mac world with the new Mac Pro, and I see it only has USB 3 ports for ILOK...and in the announcement page of the forums, it says that PT only works with USB 2 ports and ILok 2 ...

Is there going to be a fix for this coming soon?

USB3 ports are supposedly compatible with USB2 equipment but people have shown otherwise. What works for some is to plug the iLok2 into a USB2 hub that is plugged into the USB3 port. iLoks work just fine on powered hubs.

He does have a point there jack - ilok should come out with a usb3 compatible device or an firmware upgrade of some sort

or they could just trail along the path and ignore future advancements to tech altogether !!!

USB3 speeds are not necessary for iLok. If they upgraded to USB3, that would exclude everyone who does not have USB3 capability. I have a USB2 hub plugged into one of my USB3 ports and all of my devices that work great on USB2 speed (jog shuttle controller, midi, dongles etc.) get plugged in there. That leaves the rest of the USB3 ports available for devices that can benefit from the increased throughput.

Like has been said here - some have had success but some haven't and have had to use a USB hub. There is no simple yes/no.

It's not about speed it's about compatability from a company that is highly entrenched in the audio process

Edit - i'm going to try mine when I get home today but I usually go out of my way to use the USB 2.0 connection

Thanks for seeing it my way..

I would say Apple are moving away from USB 2 ports, in regards to some backwards compatabilty with USB 3 being thought of in their latest machine costing a lot of money for less support of Ports, rather than more.....But the forum on PT announcement page states Ilok 2 does not work with USB 3 ports and has to be plugged into USB 2 Port...that being noted here...there is a issue now with the new machines.

So one buying into the new Mac Pro, have to go out and buy a usb 2 port hub from third parties of a wide verity , which may or may not work...I think that is not a solution...and wasting money is not my goal in life.

So Are the Apple People or Avid People going to push the need for compliance in this regard of the ilok 2 issue, now in play by Apple with their new machines coming out now that do not have usb 2 ports?..the hub is a work around, and may cause issues to arise...So let us not accept work arounds that work for some...we need solutions that work for all.

Sorry for the confusion. My iMac only has USB3 ports also. I have yet to find any USB2 device that did not work in the USB3 ports. I have plugged in printers keyboards, mice, USB audio devices, etc. With that said, I try to keep the USB2 stuff on my hub so that I only use one of my onboard ports for legacy USB2 stuff.
