Bounces are Sped Up
I was in a recording session with a band yesterday, we recorded a couple of songs and then mixed them.
Today, I bounced them down (16 bit, 44.1) and burned them onto a CD using iTunes. I gave them the CD. I just got a call a few minutes ago saying the tracks are sped up and that the singer sounds like he is on helium. They sound sped up on iTunes, but when I go back to Pro-Tools, I found that the vocals sound the same as they do on the bounced track. More worryingly, the original audio files sound the same. What caused this? Is there a way of fixing this without refunding the guys and getting them back in the studio? This is kind of urgent... Edit: Tracks were sample based. No elastic audio/pitch was touched. There were no tempo changes to the session. Each of the songs were recorded and mixed in a seperate session. Edit 2: Only on one the songs is the speeding up obvious, though they claim it is on all. |

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
Sounds like your system may have been clocked externally at something other than the session sample rate.

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
How do I fix this?
It was recorded on a Yamaha O2R Digital Desk. Some mixing was done on the computer in the studio, then I brought it home and mixed it at home. The studio has Pro-Tools 7.0, I have 7.4. The original vocal audio file sounds the same as the vocals in the final saved PT session, and it also sounds the same as the vocal on the file in iTunes. It sounds sped up. |

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
Wouldn't mind getting a quick response to this if it isn't too much trouble.
I haven't a clue what is wrong. |

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
The studio system was probably running at 44.1 and Protools thought it was at 48. When you got home your system pulled it up to 48. What you probably need to do is bounce to 48 and then change the file headers to 44.1. If you need to do more work on the session, you should import the tracks into a new 44.1 session disabling sample rate conversion and then change all the file headers to 44.1.

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
I would just bounce the sessions as whatever rate they are already, open them in itunes & just burn the disc... it'll convert it for CD... As long as its just for them to listen to, I would just do that...

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
Would the fact that the songs were recorded as SDII and bounced down to WAV have anything to do with it?

Re: Bounces are Sped Up
There's an easier workaround - just create a new session at the correct sample rate, then use 'Import Session Data' and import the bad session, making sure to uncheck SRC in the import options.
