You could try deleting preference files for PT and DAE...

Try disk warrior, it may be a corrupted HD.

Open your System folder.
Look for a folder named "Preferences"
Inside the Preferences folder will be files named "DigiSetup" and a Folder named "DAE Prefs".
DELETE these (the DigiSetup file and the entire DAE Prefs folder).

A new DAE Prefs folder and DigiSetup file will be re-created. You'll have to go through Hardware Setup when you boot Pro Tools.

It doesn't hurt to delte the Pro Tools preferences file either, just remember that you'll lose your pref settings in Pro Tools.

Reboot the Mac.

If you still have problems, try installing a new DAE from your Pro Tools software CD.

Inside the System folder is a folder named "DAE" and inside the DAE folder is the DAE.
Replace the DAE file, NOT the folder.

Don't forget to allocate more memory to both DAE and the Pro Tools application after you have installed fresh copies of both:
http://www.digidesign.com/compato/os9/mix/

If you are installing from your Pro Tools CD, you may be able to drag and drop DAE and Pro Tools, but make sure you are replacing the previous versions that may have been corrupted. If necessary, drag the old versions to the trash and empty trash first. But don't do that unless you have access to the replacement files on your Pro Tools CD.

If none of the suggestions given so far help, you need to give a lot more of your system details, including hardware, software versions and settings.
