Default XP Service Pack

Read somewhere that for Pro Tools M-Powered 8, best to have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed.

Is this true, or will Service Pack 2 be ok?

I would stick with any official recomendations. Generally speaking SP3 and the fully patched version of SP2 were the same thing. I have SP3 on everything here and you can count on the guys that are writing the code are using fully updated machines. If you using Internet Explorer7 and XP I would wait to update to IE 8.0 until Digi figures out whats wrong with it.

Tried all the fixes except the registry re-set option.

OK,drastic action,I intend formatting my C drive, and installing SP3 straight after Windows installation.
The only other option would be to buy Vista, but Win 7 seems too close to do that.

Pro-Tools works much better on XP. Avoid Vista.

Thx for above.

I tried to install XP Service Pack 3 on my XP Home system, and it never makes it through the install - just stops, nothing happens.

So the big question is:
Can I run M-Powered 8 on XP Service Pack 2?
What happens if I try this?

Or do I have to go out and:
1. totally reinstall XP
2. buy a new computer

With regard to the original question,I have now been able to install XP Service Pack 3 using the last option on the Microsoft website, however I can't now load Pro Tools,it starts to load but hangs when it reaches "Loading Plugins - Expand"

I have no idea why this is,and surely if my Profire was at fault,PT would report no compatible hardware present, and close long before reaching the plug in loading stage?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

I am running XP32 SP3 with a Pro-Fire 610, PTM Cs2 - the only problem I have is with my AlphaTrack.
