Suggest interface for PT7 please - to mbox or not

I am looking to spdif a couple of channels into my new pc for use with PT7 (do not need any pre's etc). How does the mbox2 work for this? I have heard that there is a latency issue due to the USB that can be irritating while tracking.

Being mobile makes no difference to me because I do not even own a laptop, so having a USB based unit does not even matter (I want to keep the inteface in or under the $400-500 range so 002 rack is out).

With that being said, would I be better off going right into the bus of the computer with some type of pci based m-audio card (that has spdif in) and use m-powered (for lowest latency etc)?


.....I do not intend to track live with multiple inputs(a whole drum kit ot band for example), but rather do some home over-dubbing of guitar/bass. Also, I will be using it for drum editing (cut the drums at the studio, then take the files home and edit them/tighten them up etc). Finally, for the home over-dubbing, I would intend to bypass the interface's conversion with a higher quality two channel unit (spdif in). For a pre and compression I would be using a neve/1176 style combo unit that I have.
