Default Mbox mini Protools 7.4 not working on windows 7 64bits

I've tried to find a solution for several hours by now so I thought to write here : )

I just got my home studio bundle today and connected it to my computer. The led light in my Mbox isn't working and I'm thinking it might be because of the drivers. I did everything by the book. Some pages in the net seem to say that mbox 2 mini doesn't work on W7 64bits, but these pages are several years old. Some pages say it does work. I downloaded the W7 Beta drivers from Avids page, but still nothing. I also tried to install Prtotools again, but nothing.

Anyone can help me with this?

The reseller also promised Protools LE 8 and not 7.4 as I got it, but I think I'm free to upload to 8 if I just got this working? :P

I am not sure but I don't think PT 7.4 is qualified for Windows 7 64 bit.

What operation systems does protools LE 7.4 support? What would be the best way of me getting this to work? I have the option of installing another windows operation system if needed.

Could I install 32bit version of W7 to my computer and mbox would then work?

Windows 7 32 bit may work. Back when I used 7.4 I was on XP - for what it is worth.

For Windows 7, you need 8.0.5. Nothing older will work(or so we are told). If you own PT8, you can install it with some specific tricks. Start by uninstalling with the uninstaller that is included on the PT8 disk. Then run the installer but DO NOT connect the interface when asked. Click OKAY and let it finish and reboot. Next, run the 8.0.5 updater(which you should download ahead of time and have it sitting on the desktop). When the updater asks for the interface, DO connect it. Finish, reboot and start Pro Tools. Have your authorization code ready(the one that start "DIGI08.......). Include the spaces and note the only CAPS are "DIGI" at the front. PT8 was a $149 paid update for most. PT9 adds some great features(as does 10) but if your budget is tight, this is the route you need to go.

I did as above. Still nothing: "Unable to locate digidesign hardware..." No led is on.

We tried yesterday my Mbox with my friends laptop and the LED went on. So the box itself does work. I also tried with my gf's laptop, she has a same OS that I do (W7 64bit) and the LED didn't go on. Nothing seems to work. It's total crap if I have to reinstall Windows, because I can't even partition my disk so that I could use two different windows. Every program just says that I have only 4000mt free space on my C:\ drive which ain't true (I have 280Gb).

But to the point: Any more ideas?

I can't believe I left the "2" out of this thread. So this device is Mbox 2 mini, not Mbox mini. So sorry even though it only hurt me :P

Got it to work with Windows 7 32bits. I also downloaded PT 8.0.5 just to see does it work at the start up as I am eligible to use it, but my authorization code is for PT 7.4 and my code is wrong for the 7.4 version. Can't authorize it on Avid's web page. Need to probably contact Avid re-seller. Bad luck...

If you're still fussing with 7.4, stop fussing. Get 8 with the update as I described, or get 9 on the used market. Or if you have 7.4 running, count your blessings and make some music.
