Default limit on plugins is killing me

I have a pIV 3ghz running 6.9 with my 002r. I can put about 6 plugins on a song maybe 5 and it halts. This usually isn't a problem because i could bounce offline in other apps so the cpu wasn't trying to do everything in real time. The audio suit plugs seem clumsy since i have to take the rtas plugs off and try to find a suitable AS to replace it and process it. is there any relief here? Usually i don't want a thousand plug ins on a song,,,i know that can be bad, its usually just one more that the system will allow!!!!
is there an offline bounce that im missing?
help

You must have a problem with your system, I have an Athlon 3200 with 1gig ram and it runs tons of plugins.

Give more info on your setup, it will help in pinpointing your problem.

Which plug-ins? It definately sounds like you have a system issue. Give us as much detail about your rig as you can.

i had a similar problem with my plugins also. i was using 15 RTAS plugins spread out over 9 tracks. the only way i was able to fix it was to use audio suite plugins for some of them. but once my error message for that went away, ive been getting errors (-9129, -9094, -9093) all having to do with my H/W playback buffer. ive tried everything i can find to fix that but nothings working. do you think something could be wrong with my system.

Both you guys should take the Davec II test to see how you're rigs rank.

go here --> Regression Test

This will give you an idea of how your rig is performing. If you're getting poor performance than either you have a compatibility issue, or something again is wrong with your setup. You should score at a minimum "average" to "good"...

More info on the setup os good. But as for which plugins, if I think of all the most CPU hungry plugs I know of, I can't imagine only getting 5-6 on a P4 3Ghz. With the possible exception of trying to use 6 convolution reberbs, there's a deeper issue here.

You're using 6.9. When I first installed 6.7 on my P4 3.0, I hadn't disabled hyperthreading and it caused really low plug in count ( among other problems). If you have hyperthreading, disable it. I also get better results in several areas with the network drivers disabled in my device manager control panel.

One more thing, you never said where your buffer is set. Do you have it at something really low like 128 or 64? Raise it to 1024 for mixing.
