Default Re: 11.1.3 is out - an end to PT 11 video problems?

Just updated to 11.1.3 here.

I'm getting the black flashes from the intensity (which I didn't get in 11.1.2). And it's still very laggy whilst scanning though with the select tool.

Loaded up the same session in PT10 to compare. No laggyness whilst scanning and no black flashes. (Although in place of the black flashes it was a bit fuzzy sync for the first half a second of playback before locking in)

Update:

Went back to BM driver 9.7.7 and the black flash-screens are gone. So it's infact better to not install the latest v10.1 driver!

card output is now fine again (on both the Decklink SDI and Intensity). Well, regarding the black frames that is. all else of course is still as mentioned above.

AVID should put this info into the read me I think. I've sent this info the CS as well.

frank.

The problem with all this "Avid should update their readme and approved hardware list" business is that currently Avid don't seem to have the resources to be able to thoroughly soak test with all possible combinations. We are to an extent being used as beta testers. As I have a history of working with state of the art ground breaking kit (AMS Neve DFC serial #2) I'm happy to work through this as PT11 has brought me so many benefits in other ways.

Just tried a small session with onscreen video and now it is very smooth here, no AVE disconnects, no spinning beach balls for seconds. And video doesn't go offline now.
This weekend I can only run tests without dedicated video hardware. Although this update does not address all the video issues, it's still seems to be a big improvement.

Yes there are many combinations of gear to test but it makes you wonder when you see something as obvious as these black flashes is found within 5 minutes (actually the first time you hit play) after installation with one the most popular video card on the planet how this can slip through beta-testing. But maybe there simply is no one beta-tester who is using this hardware. Who knows... AVID can only rely on what there beta user-base reports.

I guess it's a question of what to put into a bug fix but at least they should not recommend to install the latest driver when something is as obvious as this.

BM drivers v10 and v10.1 give the black flash. 9.9.3 is the most recent that appears to be OK.

The laggyness issue is odd. It appears even in the video window UNLESS you "Disable Video Hardware" in the Options menu. Then the video window is very responsive.

As I said in previous post - the BM card is very responsive and not laggy in PT10.3.7

Blackmagic driver 9.9.2 is more stable / doesn't have the black flashes under Mavericks like the 10 driver does if you want to use it.

However, there's still an unresolved bug with playback in ProTools with both drivers:

*If you play a quicktime in 11.1.3 the timecode falls back exactly one frame before playing. Also, upon stopping it falls back exactly 1 frame. This is not normal. There also appears to be a slight delay, maybe 3 frames total after it falls back to when it plays and stops.

Going back to 10.3.8 under Mavericks...only real bug I've encountered is the "Update your Software bug."

I am very pesimistic that I will ever use PT 11 in my workflow.
Probably Avid will launch a revolutionary new PT v12 soon and ask us for another revolutionary $600 for the revolutionary AVE 2 upgrade...
