Would better midi cables stop the dreaded HUI offline problem? Any input or output appreciated!!

I too used to have HUI offline problems - also the occasional lock up/crash. Are you using serial port or USB?
What midi interface do you have?
Are you using lots of other midi gear?
I use a beige G3 - and an Opcode Studio 5LX. I use both serial cables (printer and modem serial ports). Very important when using HUI with other midi info.
Obviously turn Serial DMA off in OMS prefs. Turn off as many Input Devices as you can in MIDI menu in PT.
The only way I got my system to work as well as it is now is I re-installed OMS even though I had installed it only a few weeks before. Sometimes it gets corrupted. Cured my problems. Now the only time the HUI goes offline is when I go to the desktop to do something and that lovely little message appears. No problem as soon as I go back to PT I just clikc the window and off I go. Hope some of this helps.

Thx for info Fred & Andre! Hey Fred, the only difference w/ my sys and yours is that I am using a studio 4. I have to check and see if serial dma is off though and I'm going to try better midi cables (w/ metal ends) to see if this where my problem lies also.

Mogami or Canare midi cables are highly recommended, up to 45' should run very well. Also, the Studio 4 has often been a source of trouble & Mackie says "simpler interface the better" — I'm running an ancient Opcode 1 x 3 box w/o problems. Try a $40 1 in/1 out interface… I think your HUI will be pleased.

Warmest Regards,
Brian
