Default MIDI - Drum tracks to sheet

Hi,

when I compose my music, I create drum tracks via midi mostly using Addictive Drums instrument. When the track is finished, is there a way how to export a sheet with PROPER DRUM notes for my drummer playing live? Every time I try it, my well educated drummer says the notes are pure nonsense for him, they are good for piano playing, not drums.

Any hint how to handle drum notes?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Drum notation is strange if you're not used to it. Here's a link to a page/site with a rather exhaustive explanation of what your drummer needs. https://www.onlinedrummer.com/drum-key/

And congratulations on having a drummer who can read notation. Not all drummers can and you'd be amazed at how many of the big names can't read drum music.

To answer your question PT doesn't do drum notation as far as I know. What you could do (and this is if AD uses proper GM MIDI notation) is to manually split out the notes so they would make sense to your drummer. Use the drum map on this page: https://music.stackexchange.com/ques...-roland-electr

Full disclosure: drums are but one instrument I play

Another possibility. You can use the free version of Sibelius which integrates with Pro Tools. You can export your MIDI drum track directly to Sibelius. Open Sibelius and it will allow you to create drum notation.

It creates standard drum notation? Like the marks for different hihat hits, etc?

I believe so, yes. Not sure if that's available in Sibelius First or not, though. I upgraded to Sibelius (for a whopping $8 I think it was) and that does allow for creating drum and percussion scores. But I seem to recall it being there for Sibelius First as well. But I honestly am not sure. In any case, with regular Sibelius you can, and the annual subscription is really inexpensive.
