9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
G4 Ti, Magma 2 slot with Mix cards and USD. DA98. Both locked to black burst.
Is 9 pin possible w/6.2.3 or is it still only the Keyspan device? Would it be easier or better with a SYNC? In MC set-up. the only port that shows available is modem and Digiserial is grayed out. I couldn't get the modem to go away for nothing. Even with the MC cable, (from digiserial on Core to 98) TC was counting a little jagged in PT.

Re: 9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
Hi Fritz,
I spoke to the digi guys about this a while back, they said the digiserial ports on the back of the USD have never worked and will never work. The digiserial ports on the SYNC IO though do work for RS422 control. I would get your local digi guy to demostrate it before you buy though just in case. Hope this helps. Alan. |

Re: 9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
The ports on the SYNC I/O do work, but if you use a V1 or any other non-linear device, you'll need to use the Keyspan USA-28x USB<-->Serial adapter to get acceptable performance (contrary to what Digidesign's documentation says).

Re: 9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
I have a SYNC loop connected to a 888/24 and a Magma 2 slot with a Mix Core and Farm. PT 6.23 OSX.3.2.
The DigiSerial port on the Core is connected to the SYNC. When I open a new session and try to set-up MC, Sync I/O is not seen. I have black burst going to both the SYNC and the DA98. The 9 pin from the Sync p1 to the 98/422. The SYNC sees the incoming code and video ref. The 888/24 says SYNC mode on the fp. I tried a restart, NC. Will the Sync I/O not work with Mix cards in X? Or perhaps the 888/24? Will the HD I/O recognise the Mix Cards or do I need to do a card swap? Is MC just not happening in X w/o the Keyspan? Then I stepped back to 5.3.1 OS9.2.2 on a Mirror door. Connected DA98 9 pin to Sync p1. Looped the Sync to the HD I/O, etc. Syncs up fine and fast. Though for some reason Machine Track Arm doesn't work.

Re: 9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
Test case:
G4/500 AGP 10.3.2 PT6.3.2 192 I/O + SYNC connected to HD core through DigiSerial 9pin connected to one of the SYNC's ports In this configuration, Machine Control locks 85% of prerolls with positional reference given by LTC, and almost never works with serial timecode. Machine Track Arm works, with the usual caveats; thank gawd someone had the bright idea to include a track arm profile editor... Of course, a Keyspan adapter connected to a USB card locks 99% of times with LTC and about 95% with serial... Oh, and forget about the gPort... It hangs the whole system... Had to reboot with the Power button... Bad, bad idea...

Re: 9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
I'll have to take a closer look at the Track arm editor and give it a try with the Keyspan.
Thanks.

Re: 9 pin Machine Control ports on USD or SYNC
The SYNC I/O does work with MIX cards and 888/24s in OS X. I've got three (soon to be four) working.
MachineControl works with the SYNC I/O in OS X, though if you are using non-linear decks, get a Keyspan. Trust me. HD I/O recognizing MIX cards? You lost me there. What is not seeing the SYNC I/O in your session? I thought v6.2.3 and Panther for MIX weren't qualified yet. Did I miss something?
