Transport stops screen freezes when I select plugs WHAT CAN I DO?

I never had this before,. Im working in OS 9.2 and when I try to select a operation or plugin my screen freezes during playback and then I get the tapping fingers of death and Im stuck. I did a search but I couldnt find anything. any info would be greatly appreciated!

Trash your PT preferences.

I tried that but it didnt do the the trick, I trached DAE pref and PT LE pref is there anything I misses. I recently did a firmware upgrade on my G4 400, but Im not sure if that is when my problem developed.

more info on my situation

when my cd burner is on when I launch pro tools I
get a message "pro tools hardware is not installed or in use by another program"

toast dosent see my firewire burner in os9

everything in osX works great.

I have trashed dae and pt pref
zapped P ram
reinstalled toast
optimized my drive

If anybodys got any advice, Im goin nuts Thanks

Do you have the very latest Firewire drivers from Apple?

What version of Pro Tools?

Disc cache in memory control panel set to 512 ?

Also, with OS 9.x, there are three Prefs that should be trashed.

-DAE prefs (whole folder)
-Digi setup
-ProTools LE prefs

I went in and trashed the digi set up

I have the latest firewire drivers for OS 9.2.2
version 2.8.5

I am using PT LE 5.2.1 32 track beta

protools problem....probably need to defrag. your hard drive.

I had the same problem with my firewire cd burner. It's because you installed OSX, which installed an OS9 disc burner utility. you have to disable 4 extensions in OS9 to get it to use toast as the system default.
in extensions manager disable these exensions:
"authoring support"
"disc burner"
"Firewire authoring support"
"USB authoring support"

It does sound like you have a hard-drive problem.

Your drive is probably fragmented >>> defrag now.

Or your drive is slow >>> you have an older G4 system >>>> thus buy the latest PCI card with fast IDE-ATA-133 ports >>> and buy new fast drive to attach to IDE card.

I disabled those extensions, now my burner is working! Thank you very much. I still get the weird behavior in pro tools. How do I de frag ? I have pro tools on my mac drive. I never had any problems untill I upraded my firmware so I could use the 1.2 gigadesign processor.
I know the problem isnt the processor because I took it out and put the old one back in. and still the same weirdness.
