Default My HEAD Really Hurts these days! Every shutdown we get an error

Hey Friends
Anyone else get a shutdown error from PT on Mac when you save and exit PTULTIMATE!?

We have got the Shutdown error send to Avid popup EVERYTIME we shut it from 2020.1 or 3 or whatever it started at and it is really F’D Up and annoying and when we have big artists and their team there it looks BAD!!

Dunno where to go now. ...

What exactly is the error message.

What macOS version?

And it's not Pro Tools exiting right? I'm suspecting it's more the session closing... causing the problem... test those separately.

Sorry, should have been clearer with info as a moderator hehe

Mac Pro 7.1 28 core 384 GB ram 2 x 8TB Drives and super fast external drives and big cooling systems on BOTH 7.1 Macs as they are the same specs.

So both have Catalina 10.15.6 and PT Ultimate 2020.9 and 2020.11 as we have been testing that in really BIG sessions and it happens on all the PT sessions since a year back I would say!

When I save and quit PT it closes as normal but then the window popup with PT has unexpectedly quit press send to Avid bla bla

I haven’t really investigated until now with the new PT version as we hoped it would go away but noooo ... still there and sooo annoying. Trashed prefs as many times as I have a cold beer and thats a lot. Tried on our trashcan 12 core and Mojave and SAME THING.

We run 4 Apollo X8P and 1 X16 and Apollo X4 on the same chain and the newest updated drivers etc for them. Many many USB3 hubs but tried with only apollo cards and no Peripherals connected and same. Same with only internal drives and no ext drives.

I am stumped as we had this for a year and i thought we tried everything we can.

So...

Start Pro Tools with no session open and then quit... do you get an error?

Start Pro Tools and open a session and then close the session but do not quit... do you get an error?

Then quit. Do you get an error?

When you can work out how to get that error doing steps above. Move all your .aaxplugin files out of the plugin folder and repeat that test with the same session. Does it also fail? ... a suspect would be it's a plugin causing Pro Tools to fall over when saving the session... plugins get called while that is happening.

Anything interesting in the Pro Tools log files ~/Library/Logs/Avid/Pro_Tools_*.txt post here or email 'em to me if it's too involved.

Doubt it is an interface issue, but you could try with built-in output.

And we tried 10.15.7 on one of the 7.1 machines with same results, same on 10.15.4 5 6 etc

Thank You Darryl. Will do those tests in a few hours when we have the studio empty and will report back asap.

PS. Done the plugin move several times and I don’t have any plugins at all there right now on one of the Macs as we dont use any plgins on that machine. Will redo that on the other one just for the helluvit so we tried the steps you asked properly.

I had this problem for a loooong time. Then Eiosis updated Air EQ, which I had been using in just about every session, many months ago and the problem went away. I thought it might be Auto Tune, which I also use in just about every session, but it was not... this time...

De-bugging is a bugger! 😱

I tried without anything connected except the 49” curved ACER monitors and internal audio and got the same error.

In all honesty I am really thinking it could be a plugin causing havoc as we do have quite a few there but never in the sessions. I will start there as you said and really investigate. Need to rinse out the plugin folders anyway as we only need the few VI and PI we actually use. No one need 500+ comps and eq’s half azzed emulated anyway when we have 50+ outboards with original HW units plugins are based off so I am on a clean-up mission today! Good riddence haha

Wow Eiosis eyy? Well we have the slate bundle but never use it so wilm try that uninstall aswell. Good info here Thanks Johan.

Pro Tools runs with far less errors since I removed Slate products.
