Default Worth using 2020.5 over 2019.5? Opinion.

I have not had time to switch over. Is it more stable? On 2 systems. A 5.1 on high Sierra and a 7.1 on Catalina that I have not setup yet. I do have 2020.5 on a MacBook pro 16. The only issue is folder tracks going back and forth to my studio. Studio is hdx with avid interfaces and macbook pro is in the box so not a real comparison. I am reluctant to change my studio system.

If it is not more stable I will stay on 2019.5.

Thanks.

I'm sure you are not running either 2019.5 or 2020.5 on Mavericks

Thought mavericks is not supported. But sometimes weird things happen. Old stuff works.

OP is using High Sierra and Catalina.

IMO, 2020.5 isn't as stable as it needs to be. I'm still running 2020.3.

Just curious - what kind of stability issues have you experienced?

Thanks for asking so I can elaborate. I never upgraded from 2020.3. My opinion is based on what I've read and heard from others who did. There seems to be a lot of issues in .5 that weren't present in .3.

If that's not the opinion of today's general public then I'd love to know. I'm still getting video engine crashes in .3 too often. And quirks with delay compensation. And CPU spikes. And poor distribution between my 24 virtual cores. And sluggish GUIs from some plugins (yes, it's possibly the plugin developer's issue to solve). And other things.

.5 might be better with these things, but the impression I was left with after doing some research is that general bugs/quirks are even more bothersome.

Update... 2020.5 had been reporting abnormally high CPU usage on a small 18 track session running at 1024, SWODing and crashing continually. It didn't stop when I rolled back to 2020.3, which had been very stable for me before. I noticed glitches in the GUI of Pro Q3 (of which I had about 8 instances) and updated it to the latest version, and that seems to have solved the problem.

Back to 2020.5. The heavily loaded session appears to be running smoothly now at 128 with a reading of 20% CPU, which it couldn't do before at 1024. I can now continue work, though I'm still watching. Hope this helps someone.
