Default Pro Tools 10HD bundle won't replace 9HD bundle

I have been a PT user since it's inception. So this is not my first rodeo.

I just upgraded to PT 10 from PT 9. When I tried to download the license onto my iLok it said that it could not find the PT 9 license to surrender.

When I looked at my iLok it said that I have a PT 9 HD bundle. The auth that PT 10 is looking for is in that bundle. When I called customer support they said that it wasn't a full license for PT 9 and that I would have to pay the $699 for a full PT 10 lic.

A) how could I ever have used PT 9 for a whole year without having a lic?
B) I payed $349 to go from PT 8 to PT 9... doesn't that count for something?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like you tried to upgrade from PT9 HD to regular PT10 (non HD) which is not a valid upgrade path as far as I know.

You need to upgrade to PT10 HD ($999) or get a full regular PT10 license ($699).

That's my guess anyway based on your post, but maybe you left out some "HD" mentions in there in which case my suggestion is moot.

Thanks, I think that you are correct… I looked back at the sales email and it said Pro Tools 10.0 Upgrade from PT9.

I love that phone support tried to say it was because I didn't have a full license…

Anyway, now I get to have fun returning something to Avid.
