2 003 Rack

hi Gentleman.

I have to record 16 audio tracks with protools LE at one time.
Can I use 2 X 003 Rack on 1 Pro Tools LE system???

U can use the 2nd 1 as an ADAT input unit only; don't plug it up (firewire)

That's the ticket. Just grab a lightpipe preamp like Behringer ADA8000, Presonus D8, Mackie Onyx 800r or similar.

I'm using a Presonus D8 with my 003 and it works great. I have it syced via the wordclock cable to the 003.

Too bad you can't connect together two or more 002R/003R, and use them simultaneously. It would be neat to have this possibility- having two 002 or 003's you could have 16 physical inputs in LE.
I was asking the friend of mine, who is an expert in digital technology, and he said that technically speaking it IS possible, but it would have to be done by Digi. They would have to re-design some minor parts within the unit, and re-adjust the software, to make possible "daisy-chaining" 003's.
For now using ADAT lightpipe inputs is the way, and it works for 16 simultaneous tracks. But again : it would be neat to have the possibility of adding physical inputs by pairing together two or more 003 units.

It would be nice Chris but on the plus side it allows you to bring in much better gear into the setup.

I lightpipe a Rossetta 800 and the 8 inputs I get blow away the 003 ad/da

"Neat" is about as far as I would go...

I wouldn't want to chain multiple 003s. For one, I like having a selection of pres/ad/da to work with. Having everything all the same just seems like a bland, sterile way to record things. I spose if that's what you're into...

Plus, it's pretty expensive to do it that way. When you can get an 8 channel ADAT strip for far less than an 002/003, or a much higher quality pre/ad combo for around the same price... I just prefer having my options open.

Hell, you could get an 01V that has a nice bank of pres, adat out and s/pdif for not much more than an 003, that is also a control surface, ad/da, onboard effects, etc, etc.

I spose it would be nice if an 002/003 could work in standalone, but is it ever gonna happen...
