Default Pro Tools 9 Startup & SSDs

Hello Folks,

I was wondering .... Pro Tools 9 Startup on My Desktop PC takes more like 3 to 4 minutes to load whereas it needs 10 to 20 seconds to load on my Macbook Pro ....

My PC Configuration is almost the same as the Macbook Pro (even Much Better concerning Memory, graphics etc ...) and I got an Intel SSD X25M installed on my Desktop whereas I got a normal 5400 RPM HDD on my Macbook Pro ...

Could it be the SSD slowing down Pro Tools 9 Windows Startup relative to OSX ??

Plugins installed on both are the same so you won't have to mention that

Is it that MACs run pro tools better than a PC ???

Could it be that I have 2 separate Caviar Blacks installed on my PC and just one Drive on my Macbook Pro that runs everything??

Administrators ?? Anyone ?? :)

I am considering selling my PC which is worth around 3500$ for the sake of running Pro Tools faster ...

Should I wait for Pro Tools 10 ??

That's an astounding difference in startup time. As you see the splash screen on the slow startup machine can you tell what part of startup is taking so long (like scanning plugins) or is every startup phase slow)

PT 9.0.5 on original Mac Pro takes few minutes to startup with lots of plugins. Snow Leopard, 13gb RAM.

Pro Tools startup has been slower for me on PC since 7.x and i have tried a bunch of different discs with no difference.
From what i can tell, if you replace your SSD with a normal HDD it will only be slower. Dont know whats taking so long though, and it would be nice to know.

When i start my PC for the first time and open PT it takes longer.
When i open PT the second time it´s alot faster because its in my ram i guess.

What takes time are the Pro Tools plugins ... Pro tools scan them one by one ... and each one takes like 2 to 3 seconds ...

What plug-ins do you have installed? I am sure you have done this already but make sure they are all the latest version of the plug-in. Mine takes about 45 seconds to load the first time with the Initializing Controller (003 Console) taking almost half of that time. I have a lot of plug-ins installed too.

Also have you optimized your system to work with an SSD?

I think you've complained about this in multiple threads here but you don't really provide much useful information. If you want help how about some more useful detail, such as -

1. A Sandra report from the PC (with all your drives, peripherals connected)
2. A list of all running processes on the PC (i.e. the output of tasklist).
3. A list of plugins and their versions.

If you are expecting a reply from DTS or others then they'll probably want that info anyhow.

Have you tried trashing prefs and databases on the PC?

As others have asked, have you checked all the plugins are up to date? Run the plug-in updater?
