Default -9093 same old errors and I\'ve tried EVERYTHING

ok maybe not everything, but I've been reading all the forums on people with the same -9093 increase buffer size then another error when I increase the buffer size, and trying all of the suggestions, so I thought perhaps I have a hardware problem that is the root. Here is my configuration from sandra, I hope someone can put an end to my misery

Could this problem be related to the fact that I have a USB 2.0 external audio drive and not firewire?

Yes. (there is a reason why they recommend Firewire)

You have a few other potential issues there, too:
Quote:
Device : SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Disable that in the BIOS
Quote:
Adapter : NETGEAR WG311v3 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter
Hard Disk : Generic USB CF Reader USB Device
Hard Disk : Generic USB MS Reader USB Device
Hard Disk : Generic USB SD Reader USB Device
Hard Disk : Generic USB SM Reader USB Device
disable those when using PT

These specs seem very familiar; did you change screen names?
Quote:
Adapter : NVIDIA GeForce 6100
That's built in video; disable it in the BIOS and try a dedicated video card.

Nope, same person...though I did notice someone in the forum does have a very similar configuration.

Thanks so much for the help. I went out and got another dedicated audio drive, this time a Western Digital 160 GB EIDE internal. Installed it, still the same problems.

I tried to disable

Adapter : NVIDIA GeForce 6100
Device : SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP

in the BIOS, but I could not locate them. I apologize, I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to computers. Any help?

I disabled all of these in the device manager:

Hard Disk : Generic USB CF Reader USB Device
Hard Disk : Generic USB MS Reader USB Device
Hard Disk : Generic USB SD Reader USB Device
Hard Disk : Generic USB SM Reader USB Device

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had error hell at one time. If all else fails and you just want to record anything. This is what I did:

I ditched my usb/firewire external drive used it for archiving only.

Try this if your only truly desperate which I was.

Partition your internal system drive. With todays hard drive space you have plenty of room for your music. Start recording there. Yes against all tradional conventions but I was desperate. Now I can record more then 20 tracks and use a fair amount of plug-ins. Rewire reason adapted and ableton lite live. Most importantly I can make music with my set-up. That's all that matters to me.

Well, as I mentioned to the other guy, to disable the onboard video, you're going to have to install a different video card (else, how would your monitor work? )

I'm not familiar with that machine, as I don't have one, but typically, there is a way to disable the modem (and other peripherals) from the main BIOS at startup.

Yeah, you and DUC user skipper have almost identical rigs and exactly the same problems: check the other thread for other suggestions.

I do not recommend partitioning your system drive. It will not give you any increase in performance. If you are going to record to the system drive, just do without the partition. Not sure if the WD firewire drive has the required Oxford911 chipset. I had troubles with both a WD 80gig and a WD 120 gig so I only use them for archive and transport to other studios. A second internal drive is a great solution that can be cheap if you hit the right sale. I just bought a Maxtor 300gig, 7200rpm, 16meg cache drive for $79 after rebates. That sale is over but that kind of deal pops up all the time between CompUSA, BestBuy and Circuit City.

Yes, I got an additional internal drive for all of my audio files...a 160 GB WD with 8 Meg cache 7200 RPM, but I still have the same problems. I'm going to go hit up the other thread now and retry all of the diagnostic stuff with the new hard drive, but geez! I ran the same LE Mbox system on an old tablet laptop about a year ago and didn't have all these problems...what a bummer.

If all else fails, I'll try the additional video card, but after shelling out all that money on the brand new computer and now the new hard drive, I'm a little wounded financially haha.

Any additional help is still appreciated!

Thanks for all the help friends, I finally got my rig working. I don't know what it was...I tweaked a few system performance options in windows and it got rid of my errors, though I'm sure it was the help that I received in this forum that did the trick. Thanks to everyone...time to go make music!

Have you checked the DMA settings of the hard drives? I'd think they should be at UDMA5. Repeated disk read errors can set some Windows registry values that set the buss speed very slow, and no longer offer the faster speeds to select through control panel.

One other thought is to see if your hard drives are sharing an IDE cable with your CDROMs. I believe that having a hard drive as master and a CD drive as slave slows the whole controller down to the CD drive speed.
