Why?

That’s exactly what quick punch is for. Transport is rolling and you drop into record.

Nope, I know what you’re trying to do, but it doesn’t work that way. Viable option, as suggested, is QuickPunch.

no, you're wrong. read the guy's question - even though he's a little vague, and has a somewhat paranoid reaction to the word "Punch" or "Puch" . . .
he seemingly wants to punch into a track without arming it first.
QuickPunch requires arming a track before transport rolls.
and it's QuickPunch, not "Quick Punch".
I've never found TrackPunch useful in a music world, and I think it's more of a dubber workflow.
Either method requires thought and planning in advance of what the person wants to accomplish, which is always what you have to do in a Pro Tools world. It might not be the app for this dude.

quote from the manual:
"TrackPunch lets individual tracks be punched in, punched out, and taken out of record enable without interrupting online recording and playback."

I imagine he's smashing up the room now after the word "punch" was used so many times in one answer. We might only get emojis.

Sorry about ' Can't off record button " It's not enough to explain what I'm curious about. Yes, that's right. I am well aware of what quick punch does. I asked that the red button (what should I call it) in the edit window does not turn off when entering record mode. I'm a studio user, and maybe the ultimate version is different? Reading the manual, there is something called track punch. Anyway, if the red button in the edit window is on while record mode, the plug-in is not called. Why did avid make it that way? To prevent any accidents?

The red button is the arming button for that track. It puts your track into record ready mode so that when you hit record on the transport, that track will record any input signal.

Depending on which version of ProbTools you’re using and which hardware you’re using will determine whether or not any inserts will remain active on an armed track during record. This is because plugins cause latency and that is problematic during a record and monitoring what you are recording through Pro Tools. It might be beneficial for you to research Avid HDX and low latency recording.

You cannot disarm a track while your transport is moving in either play or record. The transport must be stopped to disarm a truck unless you are in TrackPunch mode, which is a Pro Tools Ultimate feature only
