Default 003R - input to PT on Ch1 with preamp on 0?

So I plug a mic into Channel 1 and have the input pot at 0 - with only that input selected for the PT channel - and there is still signal coming into to PT10?

And when I turn up the input pot, it increases the volume?

What am I missing?

What am I missing? What you describe is how its supposed to work(as far as I can figure) assuming you are working with an AUDIO track?

After re-referencing the 003 manual, I can see it starts at +15db. I was expecting it to go to 0 when I turned it all the way down.

Thanks for the quick response.

Aha, 0 as in no gain at all(or silence)? Indeed, its actually "low" enough to accept a very hot signal without clipping(any hotter would be best connected to the TRS input, which is designed to handle a line level input, such as from an external preamp)

Input GAIN knobs handle a range, as you discovered. With most external preamps, there is also an output control, which MIGHT cover adjustment all the way down to no volume, or might simply adjust over maybe a 20db range, with the center being considered -0(which is not "no volume", but is actually "no change" in level from the input). It can get confusing(and I'm not sure how well I covered it)
