Default Audio Suite crashes but Plug-Ins are fine?

Well, Im new to this forum and to Pro Tools. I'm currently experiecing problems with the audio suite. Whenever I try to use one of them the system freezes. However, whenever I use the plug-ins they work fine?

The current system is PT III TDM Ver 5.0.1
Mac OS 176MB of memory
Running on Power PC 9500/132
Processor = Power PC 604
Media Drive = 4GB

I also looked at the optimum settings page for proper performance and downloaded the page.

Still problems.
Other than the obvious old system does anyone have any ideas to what could be causing this?

semi new to the game
thanks
