PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
In PT 7.4 will there be pitch shifting like Sony Acid as well as the Elastic Audio feature?
In Acid, you can stretch and loop stuff and use the +/- keys to zip up & down pitch very easily and just wondered if the new Elastic time feature had this combined too? |

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
No the pitch stays rock solid no matter what you do with the audio. Elastic audio as its presently implemented is best thought of as a "Timing Tool"
Presumably some where down the road adding a function to correct pitch control would be way cool. I saw the Demo last night and think the average PT user will find a lot to like with EA just as it is now.

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
I dunno man, Charles Dye has used it and mentioned in his MiLAR forum that it DOES support elastic pitch.
I really hope so. It means I won't have to fiddle with Live! on a rewire if that is the case. Any new firm news on the release date?

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
I saw the traveling demo last week and I only remember it being used as a timing thing as well. (however they demoed so much cool stuff in an hour I forget it all)
It was pretty sweet though. You can go in and drag words or notes, or parts of them and lengthen or shorten them. You can also change the tempo of the whole song and the audio will change (but stay in pitch) as well as your midi. He did automation on the tempo ranging from 80 BPM to 180BPM, and while it's something no one would probably ever do, it sounded pretty good for what it was attempting to do. the did also demo using Structure as a sampler with vocals and playing harmony parts, there might have been pitch shifting possibilities there. My only concern now is watching the demo on an HD system and seeing how it'll hold up on a lowly old dual 1.6G4 upgrade machine.

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
My understanding is that you would still need to use something like Autotune or Melodyne in conjunction with EA. Since I have not personally used it yet I can't really comment.....
The whole point of the demo was that the pitch is absolutely stable no matter what you did with the timing and phrasing though. I have not read what Charles Dye has to say about EA in PT (gotta link?) Other companies may let you change the pitch but it would look like the whole point of Digis implementation was to NOT have the pitch change. We'll have to see what it does when it drops

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
Hello. What I remember from the demo at AES is that there are 4 ways to 'warp' audio as I recall. Rhythmically, Monophonic, Polyphonic and Varispeed. Something to that effect anyway, so yes there are ways to affect tempo without affecting pitch and vice versa, plus there are ways to meddle with both. What I do remember, and this is maybe what sunburst79 is talking about is that the artifacts are kept down to a minimum. In other words you can stretch out things to extremes (long or short) and pitch stays where it should. But there are settings to muck around with pitch if one so desires.

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
Is the elastic audio feature going to be supported in LE/MP or just HD?

EA will be across the entire line of Pro Tools, not just HD.

Re: PT 7.4 Elastic PITCH as well as Audio?
I got thinking about the settings in the drop down menu and the polyphonic and varispeed were never demoed.
So I could very well be wrong. You can do some really crazy things without changing the pitch one bit. After the seminars as we were standing around talking to the instructor and the pitch question did come up and I'm extremely positive that his reply was that it wasn't pitch oriented and that you would still need Autotune or Melodyne. Now what varispeed does in relation to EA I cant say. It wasn't demoed. I think if it let you change pitch the way it lets you change audio timing that that would have been a even bigger deal than the elastic time capabilities and that it would have been demoed also. I'm also gonna stop arguing about a product I have no hands on experience with Considering all the possibilities the demo should have been about a hour longer. We'll just have see what it does when it drops.....
