Default MBox Woes!

I am setting up MBoxes on 10 lab machines and am having the following problems.

I am attempting to run the 2.0 firmware updater. It goes through the motions but the firmware still show the old version (1.09) in the Apple System Profiler. Why doesn't the update take?

Upon bootup (before I even launch PTLE) the MBox emits squeals and white noise that's enough to damage your hearing!

If I close any session and then try to relaunch it, the computer crashes with a "Type 2 error". It then tells me to restart but when I hit the Restart button the machine freezes and requires the power to be interrupted just to reboot.

All of these MBoxes worked fine on G4 533's. We just upgraded to dual processer 1.25 G4's and now.... chaos!

Any insights from the experienced?

PTLE 5.2
OS 9.2.2
1 gig ram

Hi,

Are you having this firmware issue with all ten Mboxs? Are they connected directly to the Mac and not a hub? Have you tried the update under OS X? Do you have Digidesign selected in the sound control panel? Were all of these system created from the same disk image? You may want to try building one from scratch using a vanilla install of Mac OS from the OS CDs that came with the system. Type 2 errors on launch can happen if OMS becomes corrupted. Reinstall OMS 2.3.8 from the Pro Tools installer CD and restart the Mac. Then go to System Folder > OMS Folder > OMS Preferences. Find the file "OMS Current State," put it in the trash, empty the trash. Try launching Pro Tools again and see if you have better luck. please let me know what you find.

Thanks,

Yes all of the MBoxes refuse to update the firmware. It show that it is 1.09 right now. When I tried the updater for OSX, it said that the updater would install the same firmware as I already had. Isn't the updated firmware 2.0?

The MBoxes do not connect (USB lights) without several attempts of re-plugging the USB cables. The firware update should help this, no?

Regards.
