Default HD1 system for $6.5K in South Korea. Should I?

I own a Digi 002 and I can do a hardware exchange where I live in South Korea for approxiamately $6.5K. I can purchase the same system in the U.S. for $5K with the current promotion on hardware exchanges. The dealer added on 10% VAT which is legitimate, but I still think it is a little high. $5K plus 10% is $5.5k. It looks like I am paying an extra $1K for being out of the country. Am I entitled to a lower price as per the promotion?

Digi, if I should address this question elsewhere let me know.

Hi,

Each country has its own exchange rate and import duty to apply!!

the only time i have got 100% $ deals is with downloads. buying hardware from US has saved me money over the UK price, but mostly because of the deals i have been able to get from US side dealers.

Chris

Thanks, Chris.

It is feasible for me to buy it from a U.S. dealer and import it, but the hardware exchange makes it problematic. The whole transaction could take months and the promotion is officially over...though I assume I have a little slack.

It's too expensive, even more expensive than it's in China. And in USA, HD 3 is just about $8k.

HD 3 is $8K in U.S? I looked for online for that promotion and couldn't find anything.

I am trying to understand the difference between PCIx and PCIe. For instance, this system on Ebay is $2k. I could pick up an interface and it comes with lots of plugs. What does a brand new HD 1 do that this thing would not do?

It's a hardware issue. PCI and PCIx cards fit into PPC Mac G5's. PCIe cards fit into Intel Mac Pro's. They are physically different and the PCIe core card has, supposedly, a little extra power, chip wise, on it. If you were buying an Accel card, which you are not because an HD1 system needs to be a core card, there would be no difference in power between a PCI and a PCIe Accel card. The Accel card could be added, for more power, to the core card and thus would be an HD2 system.

the last G5 that was built by apple, the G5 2.5 Quad, has PCIe slots

If I am running Windows can I fit a PCI/PCIx card into a PC?

See my post here. I've done this multiple times. HD1 out the door easy for under 4k, brand new.
