Default Control 24 Surround Buzz

Hi,

I did a search in the DUC and came up with a similar thread on this issue. The solution was to replace the board with a new one which eliminated the problem. Anyways here's the problem : in 5.1 surround mode we get a strange buzz in the rear speakers and maybe in the center speaker but not as noticeable. Here's the catch though! It only does it at a certain time of the day : it starts to buzz at around mid to late afternoon. For this reason I don't think replacing the unit will do any good, but then again I'm not an expert at this.

Could it be something related to the electrical system in our building? We are located on top of a restaurant that opens up at 5 in the evening. Is it possible that as they open up they are somehow screwing the electrical system of the building in some way? Nothing else in the studio gets affected by this, which is why it is so strange that this is such an isolated problem. Is there anything we can do or try (like buying an extra box)? We are in the middle of a feature and sending the board back is not a good solution for us at this moment. But we have to solve this as soon as possible because we don't want clients to notice the buzz.

At this moment we are mixing in surround and there is no buzz. (9:42 AM)

Thank you

Fred

I think you are on the right track. Try to borrow or rent one of the better(i.e. more expensive) Monster power conditioners and even a balanced power unit and plug all your control room stuff into it. Or complain to the power company...
