Default Musio 1 on sale…thoughts?

I was looking at the reviews for Musio 1 and they look pretty decent overall. It’s currently on sale for $199 this weekend. Any thoughts from anyone who has used it?

Default Re: Musio 1 on sale…thoughts?

Let's deal with the negatives. The functionality is pretty basic, and some patches (timestretch and heavily-scripted) are absent. I'd say 95% of the entire Cinesamples catalogue is present and correct. Multi-mic is coming soon, Keyswitches are here though you cannot set the root octave yet - also coming hopefully. There's some perfunctory stuff like the synth and drum machine libaries that feels like they're just making up the numbers.

Then there's the concern that they do seem to keep moving the goalposts with marketing and sales, giving a slightly troubling air of desparation, and the impression that they need to keep the lights on. Cinesamples have a good heritage and have been with us a long time, so here's hoping not but worth stressing that if the worst were to happen, they say all users would get permanent license access to their collection. Also worth saying that this offer (despite what their email orignally said) is for Musio 1 - a fixed collection of libraries that includes everything to date plus three more World libraries. After that, subscribers (and lifetime subscribers) only will get new stuff, until Musio 2 comes out, which will be a paid upgrade for Musio 1 owners.

All that notwithstanding, it's the bargain of the century.

The whole Cinebrass range is stellar. Cineperc too, and I love Cinestrings. And even that lot is the tip of the iceberg, there's a ton of fantasic libraries from multiple genres. This is very high quality stuff, as you'd expect from Cinesamples - the orchestral stuff in particular is massively better than Komplete CE, for example, which is much more expensive.

The player is light and efficient, and being able to choose exactly what articulations you need to download means it's the perfect macbook library. When multi-mic is with us, you can have the mackbook on one mic position and the desktop for all of them, for example.
